Adult Sailing Instruction available to OYC members

The adult sailing program consists of small boat sailing instruction available to OYC members, certification of adult members to use OYC club boats, and small boat racing, now in two classes.

Orleans Yacht Club is proud to host US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-6 (Nauset). Boater education courses are offered as part of the Flotilla 11-6 Public Education Program and are open to the public. Click here if that is what you are looking for.

The adult sailing program consists of the following programs.

Adult Sailing Instruction

The 4th year of the Adult Sailing Program will start Thursday night April 16 from 7 to 8 PM at the club. As in the past, 8 nights of "shore school" through June 4 will be followed by "on the water" mentoring by Fleet 15 sailors, June 11 to September 10. If interested, please advise Liz in the office.

Instructor Bill Moore will teach the basics of boat parts, sailing theory, nautical nomenclature, knot tying, and rigging Club "Catalina Boats". With good weather, sailing with mentors will begin on the cove in early June.

This course is beneficial to past sailors who want a refresher, as well as the beginner. The book used in the class "Start Sailing Right" will be available in the office prior to the first class.

Use of Club Boats

In addition to the director of the Junior Sailing Program, members of Fleet 15 sailors will also qualify individuals for use of Club boats.

This could be the first summer in a long time to include a second racing class in our Adult Racing Program. Many of the Catalina club boats will be raced by graduates of the first two years of the Adult Sailing program. We don't talk racing in the adult instruction, but it is inevitable that some will want to taste the waters of racing. We look forward with great anticipation to this "new day."
